CO₂ per ton-km

Sustainability & Digitalization

CO₂ per ton-km

CO₂ per ton-kilometre is an intensity metric that expresses the greenhouse gas emissions generated to move one tonne of goods one kilometre. It allows apples-to-apples comparison across modes, lanes, and carriers, regardless of shipment size.

Why It Matters

Procurement can include CO₂/ton-km in RFQs and scorecards to compare carriers beyond price and lead time. Tracking this KPI highlights the impact of mode choice, load factor, and empty miles, and enables targets for year-on-year reduction at lane level.
